May update

I am so in love with Jay. This week I felt a stronger bond between us and I feel like a 3 year old hugging and carrying her doll and dressing the doll up. Jay is such a happy baby that we sing happy baby to him and he smiles.

He just turned 9 months and we already dipped into the 12 months old clothes. I bought matching pj's for Shawn and Jay and Shawn said we are twins and this was the first time I heard him use the word "twins" so i asked him what it meant he said 'when two people wear the same thing it's called twins". I thought that was cute.

Jay's pediatrition recommended forcefully that the best thing for Jay would be to eat rice or oatmeal cereal and that that's the most important food for him (with added iron) so the past few weeks I've been giving him cereal but I am sort of done now and have started giving him other foods. I don't understand how long she wants me to give him cereal for. She said if I really wanted i could add a spoon or two of something else.

Jay is sleeping better through the night but still drooling. More teeth coming :)

Growing pains

After the initial jet lag getting used to the schedule first week. The Main family seemed to be doing just fine during week 2. Everyone went to bed when they were supposed to. Mommy felt rested and happy and little Baby Jay started to relax and enjoy life a little when he started to teeth and teeth really hard. Poor baby got his first upper tooth quickly followed by the two bottom teeth and I know that baby is in a lot of pain. Constantly moaning and groaning at night (we feel for you and we feel the pain Baby Jay).

So it has not been easy putting him down to sleep, as we put him in his crib he immediately cries, likes to be carried around so we are trying a lot of different tactics. Besides that he is a happy Baby, loves his brother, squeals with delight when his brother enters the room and just can't seem to get enough of him.

Waiting for the teeth to finish :)

End of Week 1 in Seattle

I think we finally got the whole sleep thing under control. It took a whole week of sleeping 4 hours a day and many loads of laundry. Jay is doing really well, we are introducing more solids into his diet and is a very happy smiley baby. He smiles at everyone that come across him.

Big brother Shawn is doing good too. It definately takes sometime to get used to having someone else in the house. When Jay needs attention Shawn bosses me around and tells me to go hold Jay or he says Baby Jay wants to be held or doesn't want to drink milk. I am sure soon enough he will actually understand all of Jay's needs better than me. It reminds me of my nephew Sami, my mom couldn't understand some of the things he would say when he was a toddler but his older brother was a great translator, always understood what Sami wanted.

I've added new photos we took in Taiwan and maybe 3 or 4 that we took in Seattle.

Seattle Update

We have been in Seattle almost 6 days now and I have been sleepless. Yes, no sleep at all. Let's start from the beginning.

On our flight home from Taiwan we thought we wouldn't sleep a whole lot so that when he got to Seattle at 6pm we could go home rest and go to bed like regular people and be completely over jet lag. Yeah, that didn't happen at all.

Baby Jay was sleepy so we let him sleep and we ate dinner, they came took our trays away and suddenly Jay woke up and started to freak out. Poor baby the airplane noise and environment really freaked him up. It started with a gentle fuss and then escalated to a cry so I immediately got up and started walking around and then he got a little louder so Todd took over and went to the back of the plane and after a few minutes I went to check on them and found Todd in the bathroom with Jay crying as hard as he could (we hadn't really seen him cry) so I took over and went into the bathroom and poor Baby Jay every time he opened his eyes his whole body would shake and he would scream and scream I wasn't sure if his ears hurt or all the airplane sound was bothering him so I just held him and let him cry it all out and then he fell asleep. I gently got out of the bathroom and put him into the bassinet and he slept the whole way until we got close to Seattle. Todd and Shawn joined Baby Jay by sleeping most of the ride home. I tried watching Slum Dog Millionaire but managed to watch half of the movie only (I never watch half a movie even if its terrible, gotta watch the ending and I was enjoying this movie).

We got to Seatac airport and the lines were so long for non-Americans and so we were told to stand in this very long line because Jay had immigration paperwork and they didn't let us use the special needs line which was much shorter. Long story short once again Todd and I got really mad at immigration officers who mad us stand in line for close to an hour when they could have easily helped us and then we had to sit and wait for another 30 minutes for them to sort Jay's paperwork ( I am rolling my eyes).

Everything after the airport is a blurr right now. I have not slept in 5 nights. 4 of them I didn't even have the chance to nap for 5 minutes. Between Jay being full awake and Shawn being awake I have not been able to sleep. I've slept maybe 4 hours during the day. Yesterday I slept from 9am to 2pm with Jay (who didn't cry once I wish he would sleep at night like this) and then I woke him up and kept him awake (poor baby) until 9:00pm I put him in his crib and he was out in 20 seconds and Shawn followed. At 1:00am Jay woke up I gave him his milk and he played for a while its 3am and he is sleeping now. I slept from 10pm to 12:30am and I feel a lot better. It is 3am right now. Hopefully we'll get the whole sleep thing under control. Besides that everything is wonderful and I would like to thank all my friends for congratulating us and please understand that I want to respond but my hands are tied now but hopefully once we get the sleep thing under control I will communicate more. Until then, good night!

Only in Asia I guess

Only in Asia do I encounter this type of random stuff.

Last night the boys and myself went out for a walk close to the hotel. There are several very high scale malls in the area and of course there is a ToysRus too so we had to go for our daily doze of ToysRus.

Between the malls there is a nice pedestrian walk way in which there were several human statues. You know the type where they dress up as an alien or an ice queen and stay still and then suddenly move. Shawn and I were watching them, there was an alien one which you can find on the video here that was pretty funny.

Anyways, as we continued to walk we suddenly came across a pack of Golden Retrievers. Yes, a pack of dogs like 10 of them running around in this upscale area. Yes, there was a trainer who threw Frisbees around and the whole pack would run to grab it. It was quite random and interesting to watch until one of the Frisbees came a bit too close and nearly knocked down Shawn and Jay. You don't believe me check out the video. Random.

Right across from our hotel there is an exhibition center and guess what the theme was? Babies and pregnant mamas. I found the advertisement board to be rather interesting and was just dying to go check it out. The first time I tried to go in the man at the gate said the kids were allowed to go in for free but that I had to pay unless I was pregnant. So I had to turn around and go home :( The next day I decided to give it another shot. I just had to find out what was going on in there so this time I found a young lady at the gate, I was by myself with Jay who was fast asleep in his carrier and so I asked her if we could go in and she asked if I was pregnant and I said no but I just gave birth to this baby so would you please just let me in for a few minutes? She said ok. So off we went in. It was basically an exhibition by different businesses that cater to children lots of books, local leap frog type of stuff, lots of photo studios and then they all pounced on me to buy really expensive stuff so I ran out :0)

ShawnYi Update

1) As most of my friends know we sometimes call Shawn Shawny. We came across a high end store called ShawnYi in Taipei 101.

2) We were eating breakfast at the Grand Hyatt when suddenly Shawn says "Mommy, there is someone staring at me". I said "what? who?" and he points right behind me to this man who has turned his whole body to face our family and has been staring at us for like 10 minutes and continues to stare for another 10 minutes until we left. Random but yes, Shawn we all get stared at in Asia, get used to it.

3) Shawn holds his nose when he smells the flavourful smells of Asian supermarkets, food courts and street markets. He won't let go of his nose because apparently "something stinks".

4) Shawn calls this board Chinese superheros.

Jay J Update

Baby Jay is doing great. He sleeps, eats and then wants to play. Every time we surprise him by suddenly appearing and he makes this face that just cracks us up. He opens his mouth wide and then closes it and then does it again. We try to do different things to make him do the face. We call it "the scream of eternity". There is no screaming though.

Taiwan Update

Today will be our 6th day with Baby Jay and I think we are all doing wonderfully. The first two days Jay didn't cry at all but he did smile and play with us. After the honeymoon period he got a little more comfortable and demanded to be carried all the time which of course we didn't mind except he weighs almost as much as Shawn. He sleeps through the night for 10 or 11 hours. He drinks his milk and we started to feed him some solids we first started with the cereal which gets mixed into his milk and for the past two days we upgraded to yummy bananas.

Jay is teething or we hope that he is because he is constantly drooling. We had to buy more bibs for the little guy. He can't sit on his own yet or crawl and the first time we put him on his belly he could only lay there for 5 minutes before his hands gave out. Now he can stay on his tummy for up to to 20 minutes and for the first time yesterday he managed to sit for a few minutes with the support of his arms. Jay loves playing in the water. I've been filling the bathtub and holding him from under his arms and he immediately kicks the water with his chubby legs and makes a big splash. He is a water baby.

Meet Baby Main

Baby Jay is finally with us. He is the cutest most adorable little eight month old. He is a happy baby and loves to smile. His brother simply adores him and his mom and dad can't get enough of him.

I have so much to write about but right now I have Shawn complaining about the poopoo smell so I guess I am on diaper duty. Please take a few minutes and check out our pictures.

Love from Taipei!

Living Downtown

For some reason I never imagined myself living in a Downtown area. I always imagined I would live in a house or apartment complex where most people lived. Unlike Asia people in most cities in the United States do not live in downtown. As it turns out my first place of residence in the US happens to be in downtown.

There are many disadvantages like:

1. Sirens sirens sirens (enough said)
2. No back yard
3. One spot parking
4. Homeless people on every corner
5. Tight roads
6. No parking for your guests
7. No mingling with your neighbours
8. You trick or treate in your building
9. No shed/garage to store your extra stuff
10. Not that different from Asia

Some of the advantages on the other hand are:

1. I walk to work
2. I walk Shawn to school
3. If I ever need to be in dowtown I have my own parking spot
4. I have an incredible view of the space needle
5. I can walk to a number of theaters, restaurants, convention center, aquarium and Seattle center.
6. I feel safer living in a building with decent security.
7. Driving on the weekends is fun for me because I don't get to do it during the week.
8. I never get stuck in traffic on my way to or from work.
9. I see all sorts of interesting/weird people or events while walking to and from work.
10. I have no choice.

Facebook took over

I have not written in my blog for six months. I am not sure why but I might start writing again.

I am in Anchorage Alaska right now. I was going to take Shawn to the imaginarium but my sister-in-law's van won't start. My husband has gone off fishing and so here I am waiting for someone to help jump the van.

Yeah, my life is very exciting.

If you are wondering what I have been up to? Well, I joined facebook and I guess that's what I did instead of blogging.
