Facebook took over

I have not written in my blog for six months. I am not sure why but I might start writing again.

I am in Anchorage Alaska right now. I was going to take Shawn to the imaginarium but my sister-in-law's van won't start. My husband has gone off fishing and so here I am waiting for someone to help jump the van.

Yeah, my life is very exciting.

If you are wondering what I have been up to? Well, I joined facebook and I guess that's what I did instead of blogging.

Things are finally falling into place

I usually don't like to write when I am not happy. I am not saying that I haven't been happy but we were going through a bit of a stressful situation. Can you guess what that would be? Job hunting. I've been at it for so long (3 months) and I have finally nailed a position so I am happy now. I start on January 7th and my position is a Human Resource Generalist. I have never done this job before so I am excited to learn something new and contribute.

Shawn is doing well at school and Todd starts his new position early February so things are falling into place. We are enjoying our lives so far in Seattle. We have made many friends whom we enjoying hanging out with. We went to Vancouver last last weekend and had a blast. I will upload more pictures soon and I will start writing interesting experiences again.

Happy Times!!

Digital Camera

We desperately need to buy a digital camera. It looks like we actually might do that tonight. Shawn's school is having this fun party and we don't have a camera!!! Halloween is about to start and no camera :( I hope that thief who stole my camera has a good time with it.

I am thinking of getting the Canon SD 870. We have some points with Best Buy hopefully $200 worth so that should pay a good chunk we'll see.

Shawn said "There are seven days in a week" randomly. I guess that is something he learned at school. Isn't that cute?

The last couple of weeks

It has been a very long time since I wrote. We had a lovely week last week. We celebrated Shawn's 3rd birthday and his aunt and uncle flew down to Seattle from Alaska.
We did a number of fun things amongst it we visited the pumpkin patch which was so beautiful and so much to do. We plucked beans, tomatoes and fed some goats. Aunty Trish bought us some local pure honey. We will definately be going back.

Shawn has also started school. I think its going pretty well although he cries in the morning but his Englis is improving and it gives him a chance to do something productive. He eats lunch at school and even takes a nap.

He got a lot of fun toys for his birthday, a doctors case, workstation, a cash register and a shopping cart, a thomas train track.

Thats all for now.

Beijing/Singapore

To all my wonderful friends who are wondering where I have been.

Big news is that the Main family is relocating to the US. Yes, we are getting out of Asia and it is exciting. I've been in GCR for 10 years and Todd's been here for almost 20 so a much needed break is essential at this point.

Before our move which is the day after tomorrow (Sep 1) we spent 10 days in Beijing and 5 days in Singapore ( i am writing this from Singapore)

All I can say is that I hope China pulls off the Olympics and I wish China luck because they are going to need. Taxi drivers were rude and unkind to children and pickpockets are on the rise :) my backpack got stollen at KFC by two punks. I actually feel sorry for them because the bag was new (Jaspersport) but the phone, digital camera and wallet was all old. No US dollars or credit cards for them to use, no US passport or Iranian passport for them to travel on and only 300 RMB.

My Mom came to Singapore to spend time with us which was lovely as I haven't seen her in a long time, time was short though. We went to the Night Safari which I quite enjoyed and so did Shawn, walking around in a dark forest and hearing the lions roar. We visited a Bird Park, lots of pelicans, we went to an aquarium which was small and my dear friend Jeanne took the trouble of driving us all around. I really appreciate it Jeanne. We also had chili crab which ofcourse was delicious. We also went to Hooters, fantastic buffalo wings (1 thumbs up)
but dissapointed to know that they don't do refils on carbonated drinks and they don't serve regular water (2 thumbs down).

Moving forward in HK

From my previous posts you may have read that at any given weekend, week or month a demonstration against something will be held in Hong Kong. Well, the latest demonstration, rally, protest has been against the government for planning to demolish the old Queen's pier and make way for something new. There were three people on hunger strikes and a few people wrote something on a banner with their blood. Queen's pier has a long history. The pier was a ceremonial landing area for the British loyal family visiting Hong Kong in the 1920's.

Moving on I was on the subway (MTR) and came across a rather bizarre add. I didn't realise how open Hong Kong was getting to be. I won't comment but the photo is right below.

Last piece of news, I had been hearing about a bunch of US marines being in town and hitting all the pubs and when I was on the park island ferry we got to see their vessel up close. I really don't know what itts called but it was one of those BIG HUGE vessels with a runway and a whole bunch of planes on it. It was really cool.

Don't miss Shawn looking at all the banners of the Queen's pier commotion (we were on our way to the library and the pier is right across from it) like most demonstrations it was a peaceful demo.

Ma Wan Park

On Sunday Todd, Shawn and myself went to the newly opened Ma Wan Park. The Park closes at 6pm so the latest we could have gotten there was 5pm. We just wanted to avoid the heat but we didn't. It was so HOT everybody was suffering.

Anyways, the park is beautiful as we climbed up the little hill we came across some cute things and then at one point we saw a display and it took me by surprise and then I got the whole theme of this energy saving/environmentally friends park. Can you guess what the below picture is?

A good boy he is

Shawn and Celestine (his best friend) were arguing about what DVD to watch. Shawn wanted to watch a Chinese program for kids and she wanted to watch something else. So I explained to Celestine that its a Chinese DVD and you and Shawn are both Chinese. So like any two year old she repeated after me that she is Chinese and then said "Shawny is Chinese" and that was the end of the world for Shawn. His eyes got all teary and he started to cry the most pitiful cry and said "I am not Chinese, I am not Chinese!! I am good boy". It broke my heart to see him cry like that and of course I immediately said yes, yes you are a very good boy. I looked at Celestine and she had this confused look on her face like what does that have to do with anything. Clearly he still doesn't understand much about the difference races but he certainly understands that he wants to be defined as a good person.

When baby gets sick

Shawn woke up this morning with a swollen eye. We noticed a bug bite on his eyebrow yesterday but this morning the delicate skin of his eyelid is completely swollen. To top that off he also has a bit of a cough and a runny nose.

I feel so sorry for him although his appetite and mood hasn't changed yet but every parent would agree that whenever your child is sick you wish you could take their illness and inflict it upon yourself.

As he was playing with his car this morning I heard him say "That's so cool".
